Walk to Wellness: 20 Amazing Superfood Recipes

Over the past few weeks, each morning, I’ve covered the benefits of superfoods from the book:

Superfoods: The Food and Medicine of the Future

By: David Wolfe

This week, each morning, we’ll finish up with the final four superfoods from the book, which are:

  • Incan berries (AKA golden berries
  • Kelp
  • Noni fruit
  • Yacon Root

We’ve covered everything from goji berries to coconuts to bee products to algae and seaweed. To see the articles from the superfoods series, follow THIS LINK. We’ve learned, over the past few just how incredibly healthy, nutritious and healing these superfoods can be.

Snap that pic forWorld Camera Day!.png

That’s all well and good, but you have to actually EAT them, to reap the benefits. That’s where this article comes in. I’ve scoured the internet to come up with a list of 20 different recipes, which incorporate the different superfoods. I’ve tried to include each food in at least one recipe.

The article culminates with a very special chocolate drink, SUPER healthy, jam packed with vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and anti-aging properties, prepared by David Wolfe. There are three different videos which explain the ingredients in this very special drink, and how to make it.

This week will wrap up our discussion on superfoods. If you have any comments or questions, as always, leave me a comment below! ENJOY!

Namaste my friends!

Next up Bee Products– Bee products consist of raw honey, Bee Pollen, royal jelly and propolis. I’ll be breaking this up individually. Next, the final bee product –  Propolis.

For the other healthy food tips, follow THIS LINK.

What is Bee Propolis (1,2,3)?

The word “PROPOLIS” is from Greek and means “defend the city.” (1) Propolis is a substance, a tree resin, collected by bees and mixed with their own nectar and beeswax to protect the hive from foreign invaders and keep the hive healthy. The bees use the substance to fill the cracks in the hive, protecting it from invaders. If the invaders do manage to make it through the barrier, the propolis kills the invader. In fact, if a mouse or mole manages to get into the hive, the bees will sting it to death, then mummify it in propolis. (2)

How can you buy it?

It comes in several forms: Throat spray, capsules, drops and mixed with raw honey. I currently purchase mine through Amazon.

Ten benefits of Propolis (1,2,3):

  1. An anti-microbial product, kills all forms of foreign bacteria and virus.
  2. Helps heal respiratory infections, including chronic infections.
  3. Rich in the B vitamins, as well as vitamin C, vitamin E and bioflavonoids. – all of these nutrients strengthen the immune system.
  4. Boosts the white blood cells, or macrophages, which are the front line defense against infection.
  5. Stimulates the immune system.
  6. Helps kill skin infections
  7. Fights tumor formation
  8. Stops free radical damage
  9. Effective against Anti-bacterial resistant superbugs (3)
  10. Anti-inflammatory

The above information was gathered from the following two videos. Pick one or both, they are equally informative.

The facts about fish oil

In keeping with our discussions on the health benefits of different types of fat over the next few weeks, I felt compelled to share this phenomenal post about the benefits of fish oil supplements! It’s a terrific article that breaks down exactly why fish oil is healthy, including Omega-3 fats and it’s components EPA and DHA. Have a look!

nutritionnut84

You may have heard of people who take fish oil supplements… but do you know why they take them? Fish oil supplements are gaining in popularity as people become more aware of the health benefits that they may offer us.

Fish oil is obtained from fatty fish (you may also have heard of them referred to as oily fish), such as trout, tuna, salmon, sardines, mackerel and herring. These oily fish contain about 30% oil, though the number may vary. If you want white fish, they only contain high concentrations of oil in the liver and may have much less oil overall.

Fish oils contain a lot of healthy components, but two are typically regarded above the rest – EPA and DHA.

EPA (or Eicosapentaenoic acid) is an Omega-3 fatty acid that is found in fatty fish. This is what people are typically referring to when they refer to the…
