This video was brought to my attention by my university. As a recovering sugar addict myself, I felt it was important to share this with all of you.

This video discusses the lengths food manufacturers go to, when developing products. The chemistry, physics, biology, math, etc to discover just the right amount of SALT, SUGAR AND FAT to reach the “bliss point”, or the point that makes you continue to eat, and eat, and eat, and eat…even when you’re body tells you ENOUGH!

This video is based on the book  SALT SUGAR, FAT by Michael Moss. In this book, Mr. Moss gives you the inside scoop into just what happens in the board rooms and the labs of food manufacturing companies.

Have you seen this: Sugar Coated – A Revealing Look at the Sugar Industry

Is sugar the new tobacco? Would it surprise you to learn that scientists, the government and sugar industry knew the toxic effects of sugar 40 years ago, but covered it up? In the 1970’s there was a debate going on in the government and scientific world about whether fat or sugar was the cause of heart disease. Back then, research began to come out that SUGAR NOT FAT was the cause of heart disease. When they caught wind of this, the sugar industry launched a marketing campaign,  that was so successful, FAT became the bad guy. (They eventually won an award for their successful marketing) AND, here we are, 40 years later, fatter than ever.

Over this past weekend, I watched a documentary called 

SUGAR COATED

This movie is an eye opening documentary about the toxic effects of sugar and the story behind secret documents that revealed the sugar industry cover up.

Easy Spicy Paleo Salmon Frittata

  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1.5 cups cherry tomatoes
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 6  eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup wild canned salmon
  • 2 Tbsp chopped cilantro

Sugar Detox Carrot Cake Pudding

  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Cream Concentrate or homemade coconut butter
  • 2 tablespoons sunbutter (or nut butter)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (or more)

Cilantro Lime Chicken

  • 1 1/2s lb skin-on, deboned chicken thighs
  • Lime wedges, for garnishing
  • Chopped cilantro, for garnishing

Marinade:

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons finely chopped cilantro stems and leaves
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 heaping teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or more to taste

Sunbutter Truffles

for the truffle base

  • 1/3 cup Sunbutter (sunflower seed butter) or other nut butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup coconut butter, softened

for cocoa-espresso truffles

  • 1 tablespoon finely ground coffee beans
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup pecans, chopped

for almond-cocoa nib truffles

  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa nibs
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened finely shredded coconut
