I’ve hit another milestone on my little blog… I’ve posted 1337 articles on The Purple Almond! Now, some of you may be wondering about the significance of this number and why would WordPress send a badge with this number. Well, below you’ll find a repost of my original article on this topic, when I reached 1337 followers. READ ON! This article explains what 1337 means and why it’s significant. The article and one of the videos have been updated a bit, but the heart of the original article has remained. I hope you enjoy and are motivated by what you read.
HERE IS THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
Many times I wake up on Feel Good Friday morning and wonder how to motivate all of my lovely readers. But, something always springs to mind or presents itself, as it did this morning.
Upon waking, I checked my blog, as I often do, and found a very pleasant surprise, the 1337 badge was in my notifications! I have reached 1337 followers! 🎉🙏🎊🍾😊 Thank you so much everyone! I am so blessed to have such amazing followers and to be doing what I love. 💕 Thanks again. You guys are awesome 😉! 😘🤗
Now, if you’re a new blogger as I was when I started, you may not be aware of the significance of this particular badge. You may think, “Well, that’s a very random number. Why would WordPress give someone that badge?” Well, if you’re familiar with computers and the world of the internet, you’ll know that this isn’t just any random number, but has meaning behind it.
I became aware of the significance behind this number because of a fellow blogger. Someone posted their 1337 badge on Instagram a few months ago, and wondered what it meant. It’s original usage was in the field of computer hacking, then branched into computer gaming.
Here is it’s meaning, according to Urbandictionary.com:
“ 1337 means Elite. The point of 1337 is to replace all the letters with symbols, and is quite fun to play with. 1337 was first created by some people wanted to talk in a forum without any outsiders barging in.”
Here is a bit more explanation from wikipedia:
“Leet (or “1337“), also known as eleet or leetspeak, is an alternative alphabet for many languages that is used primarily on the Internet. It uses some characters to replace others in ways that play on the similarity of their glyphs via reflection or other resemblance. For example, leet spellings of the word leet include 1337 and l33t; eleet may be spelled 31337 or 3l33t.
The term leet is derived from the word elite. The leet alphabet is a specialized form of symbolic writing. … The term leet is also used as an adjective to describe formidable prowess or accomplishment, especially in the fields of online gaming and in its original usage – computer hacking.”
So, leetspeak uses numbers in place of letters: 1=L, 3=E, 7=T to spell the word LEET, which in turn means ELITE.
Now, it’s funny, but I don’t feel elite, I take this as a symbol that I’m no longer a new blogger, (or n00b in leetspeak). I’m not sure if this is really a big deal or not, (probably not!) but I thought it was a pretty cool badge. I wanted to share it with all of you and use it as a jumping off point for today’s Feel Good Friday. (This will be short, since I’ve already written quite a bit. )
What does it take to become elite? I set out to find advice from those considered elite, the best in their fields, founders of businesses, authors, CEO’s and the like. What do they say it takes to be the best, to become ELITE at what you do.
I found a video called THE ELITE MINDSET: THE BEST 43 RULES FOR SUCCESS on youtube. This video contains 43 tips from just those type of people, considered best in the business, giving their advice as to what it takes to succeed. This video is on the long side – 39 minutes. You don’t have to watch the whole thing, but watch some of it, bits and pieces. It’s quite inspiring! (I recommend skipping to 19:38 as I feel the second half of the video is the best) Here are the first 10 of these gems of wisdom.
One of the best pieces of advice I heard in this video: do something you’d love to do, even if you didn’t make money. Loving what you do is key to success. Being successful takes lots of time and effort. If you don’t love what you do, then you won’t be able to do what it takes to succeed. So pick something you love. That’s what this blog is for me. I don’t get paid a dime for doing this blog, I do it because I absolutely love doing it. Teaching people about nutrition and inspiring my wonderful, beautiful, phenomenal followers is reward enough for me. Eventually, after I graduate, it will be turned into a business, but for now, you guys are my reward.
Be yourself. Another key piece of advice in this video. That advice has come into play on my blog, and another reason I love writing so much. This is my tiny little piece of the universe where I can completely be myself and show the world who I am.
Continue forward….keep plugging along…NEVER STOP…This was another theme and crucial advice in this video. This was something I decided when I first started this blog. No matter how many people followed me, I’d continue being myself, teaching about nutrition and inspiring people. I knew, the people who needed to find me…would.
Finally, getting back up after you’ve fallen…fail your way to success…is a key to success. If you never stop, if you keep getting back up, if you STAND, you can never fail.
If you have an idea you’ve been sitting on, waiting for the “right” time, I hope I’ve inspired you. Dream the dream…create the vision…work the plan…Don’t wait for the right time, because the right time is NOW!
