Exactly two weeks ago today, I turned 49 years old. Exactly 50 weeks from now, I’ll turn 50 years old. YIKES! I’m almost 50 years old, and 50 pounds heavier than I’d like to be. So, I decided this is the perfect time to lose the weight, once and for all. I’ve tried before. In fact earlier this year, I took a three month leave of absence from school and blogging to refocus and lose weight. During that time, it was my goal to lose 30 pounds in 3 months. I was an abject failure, as you can see from THIS POST.
However, as I stated in that post, after watching an inspiring conference my son attended, I learned that every successful person fails their way to the top. It was the theme of the event. This was very inspiring for me to hear that the only way to fail is to quit. So…I’m not giving up on my efforts to lose weight, and I feel now, the timing is perfect.
I must be strong, and not give up. I must find a way to do this, as an example to my son, but more to prove to myself that I am strong, that I do have what it takes, and I am worth it. I know I can lose the weight, because I’ve done it before. Now I just need to convince myself that I am worth it. After all, we are what we believe. Do I lock myself into the “dungeon” of an overweight, middle age body, with no energy. OR, do I unlock the palace of possibilities that come with a healthy, thin, firm body? I think it’s time to UNLOCK THE PALACE!
How do I unlock the palace of possibilities? It all starts with a SMART goal… (1, 2)
A Harvard study showed that 83% of the United States population do not have goals . When looking at people who do have goals, it was found that only 3 out of every 100 people write them down. Additionally, 80% of the people who do write down goals, actually achieve them. So the first step is to write down my goal.
My SMART goal for the next 50 weeks:
I will lose 1 pound a week for 50 weeks, beginning on August 9, 2018 and ending July 25, 2019, through 30 minutes of exercise 5 days a week, intermittent fasting and a low carbohydrate, paleo diet. I will do this to work toward flexibility, improved muscle tone, weight reduction, circulatory health, and a balanced metabolism, as well as a firm, thin body with more energy.
Now, 1 pound a week may not seem like a lot, and may seem “doable” to all of you, but, for me it’ll be a challenge. Since going through menopause, my ability to lose weight has dwindled down to practically nothing. I can normally lose a few pounds, maybe up to 5 pounds, initially, then after that, nothing. I’ll eat right, and exercise, everything by the book, as I’ve been taught in school, only to step on the scale and see the same weight as the week before. So 1 pound a week is a realistic goal.
I’d love, more than anything, to lose as much as possible, in as little time as possible. But I know this isn’t healthy, nor is it realistic. That’s where I went wrong during my sabbatical. My goal then was to lose 2.5 pounds a week, ambitious for even young people, not to mention a post-menopausal woman such as myself. Besides, it works into the “50” theme….
My new schedule:
I have also decided to revamp my schedule to accommodate for this new, FIT BY 50 journal. I have given this a lot of thought. I tossed around the idea of having this journal only on Saturdays. But, I know myself, and I know that won’t work, because of all the excuses I’ll come up with for not following through. (that’s me, I do it all the time. I can talk myself into OR out of, just about anything) Since this online journal is an integral part of my success, I knew it had to be one of the main posts.
Mondays, my other “main posts” day, will accommodate all of my other topics. I will alternate between yoga, meditation, motivation, nutrition and recipes.
YOU ARE LIMITLESS
I’d like to leave you, and myself, with a bit of motivation. Below is a 10 minute video with some inspiring words from Louise Hay. In the video, she discusses how we create our own reality. You decide if you’re in a dungeon or a palace. I’m not sure about you, but I choose the palace any day.
