Motivation Monday: The Winner’s Quality
I’m sorry this is coming out so late, but motherly duties took priority today. This will be brief, due to the lateness of the post.
As I sat down to write this post, not knowing exactly how to motivate you all, I started looking through the comments that had come in throughout the day. There was one that stood out. It was from Velma Dunkin of Fierce Fabulous Funny.
Over the weekend I posted my second food journal, in which I admitted that I had fallen off my “no soda” wagon when my son got hurt. I was very discouraged, feeling like I failed myself and all of you. Velma set me straight.
If you haven’t visited Velma’s site yet, I highly encourage you to do so. It is WONDERFUL..very inspiring and motivational. On her about page, Velma talks a bit about her life struggles and how she has persevered. I’m not going to tell you her story here, because I want you to go and visit her site, to see for yourself. One of the struggles she faced was alcoholism. It is in this context which she encouraged me, in her comment, which is below:
“I love your courage. Thank you for sharing your journey. I’m a recovered alcoholic I have been in recovery for 15 years. My last drunk was three fifths, a bottle of wine and a half gallon of whiskey. I drank myself silly for 2 days. I won’t go in to detail. My story is on my blog for the world to read. I understand your addiction. I want to encourage you today not to give up. Sometimes life throws us a curveball that knocks us down. Les Brown says if you get knocked down land on your back so you can get yourself back up. John Maxwell says fail forward. You slipped. Big deal. That doesn’t make you a failure. Learn from it and move on. Keep moving forward. I have my own struggles. I won’t go in to detail but believe when I say I understand. Sometimes when I feel like a failure I listen to this video by Les Brown. It inspires me. Motivates me and gives me the determination to get back up. I would like to share it w you today. I’m coming back and so are you!!! Have an awesome and blessed day!!! ” ~ Velma Dunkin
I want to thank Velma for her wonderful and encouraging message, not just to me, but everyone. It is truly something I needed to hear.
As Velma said, life sometimes hands you a curve ball. Winners muster up the courage to act. They harness the power to start again. As Les Brown says, THAT is…
THE WINNER’S QUALITY
Here is the video that
Velma shared with me in her comment.
