Daily Inspiration: The Great Boat Lift

You may think you’ve heard everything possible about 9/11, but I would be surprised if you have heard this one, or maybe it’s just me 🙂 The video below, “Boat Lift“, is narrated by Tom Hanks and is 12:56. It’s the wonderful story of how the ferry captains and boating industry in New York City rescued people from the island of Manhattan on 9/11.

Here is a quote from the video:

“The great boat lift of 9/11 became the largest sea evacuation in history. Larger than the evacuation of Dunkirk in World War II, where 339,000 British and French soldiers were rescued over the course of 9 days. On 9/11, nearly 500,000 civilians were rescued from Manhattan by boat, and it took less than 9 hours.

Amazing right? Can you believe how many people they rescued in such a short time? It was tremendous to hear such an uplifting story. For people to come together in this way, after such a horrible tragedy, is astonishing.

But, humans are truly resilient creatures. We are much stronger than we give ourselves credit. As the movie says, we all have some hero in us. We need to find it.

“I believe somebody has a little hero in ‘em…you gotta look in, and it’s in there, it’ll come out, if need to be.”

~ Robin Jones-“Boat Lift”

Now it’s time to watch their story and find out how they managed to rescue so many people so quickly. I hope you take a few minutes to watch this uplifting and inspirational video, if only to learn that we can move mountains….if we stick together.

“I have one theory in life. I never want to say “I should have.” If I do it and I fail, I tried. If I do it and succeed, better for me…If you wanna do something, you do it.”~Boat Lift

That’s it for me until next week everyone. I’m off until Tuesday, because of an assignment due on Monday night. HAPPY FRIDAY…HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND…GOD BLESS!! 🙂

About Tamara Hoerner (1348 Articles)
Welcome to The Purple Almond! My name is Tamara Hoerner. I am a student at Hawthorn University working toward a Master of Science in Health and Nutrition Education. For me, the name Purple Almond symbolizes “Good, nutritious, whole food bringing light and life to the body, awakening the inherent healing mechanisms within.” I'm all about getting back to the basics, good old fashioned traditional organic, whole food, the kind your great-grandmother used to eat. You'll find no processed foods here. Just good food to heal your whole body. I also believe a healthy body isn't just about food. Stress plays a large part in the physical health of our body. I, therefore, believe in using anything that relieves stress and heals the body, including: mediation, yoga, music, laughter, inspiration and helping others. You'll find all these included in my blog as well.

Thanks again for the nomination! I truly appreciate it!
