Daily Inspiration: Be Like Water my Friend

I apologize, but today’s daily inspiration is coming out a bit late. I had trouble deciding what to do tonight.

Then, I found the short video of Bruce Lee talking about his famous quote about “water”. At first I didn’t know if I should use it. Normally, a video will suddenly just pop out at me and I know instantly that I will use it. But, that didn’t happen this time. It did grab me right away, but, I watched it several times and wasn’t exactly sure what he meant by it.

I have some background in martial arts, so I thought maybe he was talking about flowing like water when you’re doing your moves…and…it does fit in this scenario…but I don’t think that’s what he meant. I think he was talking about life. I think it means a few things, but mainly he’s stressing the importance of keeping an open mind, going with the flow, and not getting stuck in our life. More importantly, however, he means don’t get stuck in your personal beliefs to such an extent that you go stale and shut everyone and everything else out.

I truly believe the only way we learn in life is through an open, flowing mind. Have a mind that, like water, can fit into any scenario easily.  Just like water stays fresh while it is flowing, your mind will remain fresh while it is flowing and open. The opposite is also true. Water goes stale if it gets stuck. The same is true with your mind. If you get stuck in one way of life, and one way of thinking, your mind, like water, will go stale.

I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on the Bruce Lee video and quote below. Leave me some comments. Do you think I’m on the right track or am I way off?

Anyway…have a great night everyone~ GOD BLESS!!! 🙂

  1. My mom and I were obsessed with Bruce Lee when I was a kid. And this quote always touched me. It’s one of my favourites. It can be taken anyway, and some people might derive different meanings from it. That’s what’s so great about this quote.

  2. Hmmm. I think he means that we can adapt to all situations and make the best of what we have at any given time? Just like water adapts in shape and in motion? Very cool clip.
